The covenant of Aibhneen Geard sits on the East side of Loch Lard about seven miles from the village of Milton. Aibhneen Geard roughly translates to (river guard) even though the covenant stands at the edge of loch not a river. When the fog is not so thick and the drizzle subsides the old keep can be seen as far as Milton on the other side of the Loch. Reaching the covenant can be done either by an old road that follows along the shores of Loch Lard or by boat from Milton.
